Master in French Language & Literature

Smart Island University Master of Arts in French Language and Culture provides a flexible combination of language, literature, cultural history, and methodology coursework. It is designed for students with expansive and interdisciplinary academic interests. 

Our MA students will pursue non-traditional outcomes reflecting the methodologies and scholarly expertise of our core faculty. 

Particular strengths of our university lie in Translation Studies; Francophone Studies and French as a Global Language; Cultural History of the Francophone World; Textual Studies, Book History and Digital Humanities; Gender Studies; Pedagogy and Second Language Acquisition.

Students will gain in‐depth knowledge of the French environment, improve their writing and oral skills and learn to evolve confidently and efficiently in a professional French environment.

Following obtaining their MA in French Language and Culture, the students can apply for positions as teachers of French as a foreign language in middle or high school and in higher education but also in vocational training in the sectors of tourism, culture and health.

Furthermore, they can move towards the cultural and diplomatic services of French-speaking countries, towards administrative positions within public and private institutions.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree – obtained in a discipline related to the chosen program or equivalent.
  • When the candidates are not native French speakers, have not completed a degree in French, or have not worked in French, they may be asked for an interview to assess their motivation, their career plan, and their professional experience in the chosen field.
